MATRIX: Leachate of solid or liquid waste as described in Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure
ANALYTE: 2,4-D and Silvex (2,4,5-TP)
RANGE OF DETECTION: 1 to 50 ppm 2,4-D, 0.2 to 10 ppm Silvex
2,4-D RaPID AssayÒ kit and 2,4-D Sample Diluent (available from SDI). Silvex RaPID AssayÒ kit and Silvex Sample Diluent (available from SDI). Other reagents and equipment: reagents and equipment as required by EPA Method 1311: Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP), precision micropipets and serological pipets for making appropriate dilutions.
Extract the 2,4-D and Silvex from the solid or liquid waste sample according to the procedure outlined in EPA Method 1311 If desired, store the leachate at 4° C in a borosilicate glass container until the analysis can be performed. See Section 8.0 (Quality Assurance) in the leaching procedure for maximum holding times of extracts.
Prior to 2,4-D analysis, dilute a portion of the leachate 1:1000 into 2,4-D Sample Diluent (e.g., 25 mL into 25 mL). Analyze this diluted leachate as the 'sample' according to the package insert for the 2,4-D RaPID Assay. Prior to Silvex analysis, dilute a portion of the leachate 1:40 in the Silvex Sample Diluent (e.g., 50 mL plus 1.95 mL). Analyze this diluted leachate as the 'sample' according to the package insert for the Silvex RaPID Assay.
