Signal StreetBox Compact System for Air Quality Monitoring
Signal has launched a unique product aimed at the gap in the market between full reference monitoring stations and simple absorption tubes. The StreetBox is an electrochemical sensor based, battery operated air pollution monitor capable of measuring up to three gases or PM10 plus environmental parameters such as wind speed and direction.
Where reference equipment is expensive, large and requires extensive maintenance, the StreetBox from Signal Ambitech is low cost, compact, easy to install and cheap to maintain. With sensors available including NO2, NO, CO, PM10, SO2, H2S, sound and wind speed and direction, the StreetBox can monitor and record information on a whole range of airborne pollutants and cross reference them to site specific data such as temperature and relative humidity. These features make it ideal for the requirements of city municipalities to monitor, in real time, the effects of traffic pollution in city centres. Already this new, exciting product has been used in a range of applications from monitoring vehicle emissions to control traffic flow to local authority monitoring hotspots.
Perfectly suited to short term measuring periods, the StreetBox has recently been installed in the garden of a private property to investigate the impact on emissions of a local foundry. In this application it was necessary to obtain real time data to monitor how operations at the plant were impacting pollution levels throughout the day, but space for monitoring equipment was severely restricted. The StreetBox provides 15 minute averages which are then verified using a gravimetric sampler co-located at the site.
