Subjective evaluation of urban environment: a case study in Beijing

There is a growing interest in Chinese citizens' attitudes towards economic reform and development, but little attention has been paid to their views on the urban environment. Based on the results of our recent survey in Beijing, this paper discusses the public awareness of the current urban natural and social environment, of the relationship between economic development and environment protection, and of the relevant government policies.
