Everyone is well aware of the wastewater treatment (WWT) plant manager's nightmare – a toxic shock leading to total activated sludge kill off. And whether you are giving it or receiving it you don't want any nasty and very expensive surprises!

Even if you manage to avoid a significant pollution incident (with subsequent fines and bad publicity) it will take at least 2 to 3 weeks to re-establish full-scale operation, and the total cost may be in the region of £25000 - £40000 (based on small 100m 3 / day plant where waste needs to be transferred by tanker to another facility while full-scale operation is re-established).
