Though once a relatively isolated, rural treatment plant site, the McAlpine Creek Wastewater Management Facility (W\VMF) in Charlotte, N.C., found itself surrounded by residential and commercial developments in early 1995. Driven by the desire to maintain a good neighbor policy, McAlpine Creek, the largest of the Chatlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities (CMUD) wastewater treatment plants with a 64 million gallon per day capacity, found that odor control was now a high-priority issue.
