A 1994 BiE survey, City Analysts and the Environment, undertaken in association with Extel Financial (a sister company of the Financial Times), concluded that quality of management is the most significant factor
considered when assessing companies for potential investment. The Index’s three-fold objectives are to: 1) raise awareness about environmental issues, 2) determine the progress that FTSE 100 companies consider they have made against ten key attributes of environmental management, 3) initiate and encourage environmental competitiveness.
