On June 6, 2000, the Canadian Council of the Ministers of the Environment endorsed a proposal to establish a new set of regulations for ambient threshold values of fine particulate emissions from industrial process exhausts.

Most traditional Air Pollution Control devices presently in use in the Pulp and Paper Industry are not suited to the high efficiency capture of submicron particulate.

This paper describes a proven control technology for the collection of fume and submicron particulate: the Wet Electrostatic Precipitator (WESP).
