Ultrasonic algae control solutions to treat smaller water areas
Algae has an import function in nature, it provides food and energy for animal life, and much of the earth’s oxygen. However, an excess of algae can be hazardous to both humans and animals. Research has demonstrated that ultrasound can be an effective method of controlling algal blooms.
Ultrasonic algae control solutions: the differences
There are various ultrasonic algae control solutions available to treat smaller water areas (up to 200 meters). The algae control devices comprise floating systems with transmitters that emit ultrasound waves underwater in order to control common types of algae in ponds, cooling towers, water treatment plants and other applications.
For larger water surfaces such as recreational lakes and drinking water reservoirs other products are available, for example the MPC-Buoy. Research has demonstrated that ultrasound can be an effective method of controlling algal blooms.
Below are detailed three important differences between the LG Sonic e-line and other devices.
1. Ability to adapt the program to specific algae types and water conditions
The LG Sonic e-line is the only system with the ability to change the ultrasonic program according to the type of algae present. Each program contains various ultrasonic parameters, such as frequency, amplitude, waveform, and signal duration, enabling the system to provide an effective solution for each situation, resulting in shorter treatment times.
2. Impact on the environment – no use of cavitation
Some ultrasonic algae control solutions use cavitation to kill algae, which is a phenomenon where high-power ultrasound causes the formation of micro-bubbles that implode, causing intense heat pressure. This process can destroy cells, potentially harming fish and plants. LG Sonic products are not based on cavitation. The effects of LG Sonic products have been tested by multiple universities and are proven to be safe for fish, plants, zooplankton and insects.
3. Integration of automatic cleansing system
It is important to keep the ultrasonic transmitter head clean in order to maintain the system’s efficiency. The LG Sonic® e-line is equipped with an automatic cleaning system, the Aquawiper™, to prevent damage to the ultrasonic transmitter, providing effective treatment with minimal maintenance. Other systems do not have an automatic cleansing system, they need to be unplugged from the power source, taken out of the water, cleaned and put back in the water at least once each month, resulting in high maintenance costs.
