A research conducted by French company Aliapur provides proof that burning used tires produce comparable energy (heat output) but less fossil CO2 emissions than burning coal or petroleum coke. Since used tires are not 100% fossil unlike coal and coke, their combustion emissions have renewable carbon or biomass fraction. Through ASTM D6866 testing, the biomass fraction of used tires was quantified.
