Abstract

Antibacterial agents such as triclosan and triclocarban are common ingredients in many consumer personal care and household products. There is a growing concern about the emergence of these chemicals in the environment. The impacts of these chemicals on human health and the environment are not known or regulated in any way. The City of San Jose has utilized it Environmentally Preferable Procurement Policy (EP3) as a tool to minimize the occurrence of antibacterial agents and their breakdown products in surface water.
