For the management of its power plants, the utility company SaarEnergie is using a network control center from Siemens that simulates a virtual power plant.

B ased in the German city of Saarbrücken, the utility company not only operates several power plants with a total capacity of about 2,000 megawatts; it also procures electricity from various distributed energy generation facilities such as combined heat and power plants and wind power plants. The Spectrum Power CC network control system developed by Siemens’ power distribution experts in Erlangen allows utilities to precisely adjust both power generation and distribution to meet demand.
