When less is more but still not enough: managing academies of science in a globalised world
This paper examines the role that academies of science, especially academies of science in the developing world, could play in larger efforts to promote sustainable development in the South. It looks at the reforms in administration and management that will be necessary to make academies of science more relevant to their societies. Special attention is paid to the measures that nations in sub-Saharan Africa need to take if their academies of science are to make important contributions to breaking the cycle of poverty that has plagued the world's poorest region for decades.
