Wickford Junction sits atop a gravel aquifer recharge zone. A Walden SBR system was chosen to treat the wastewater flow from a proposed shopping center in order to remove contaminants prior to discharge to a disposal field. The shopping center was to be built in phases and the developer wanted the flexibility to incrementally add treatment capacity as additional store fronts were added. Walden’s PLC program allowed for future expansion simply by adding the equipment and turning it on at the operator interface terminal.
Mitigation measures may be used to prevent soil and water pollution from waste disposal, landfill sites, septic or chemical storage tanks. Among them, drains and impervious barriers may be set up. The efficiency of this technique can be evaluated by means of groundwater modeling tools. The groundwater flow and the leakage drain–aquifer interactions are implemented in a conforming finite element method (FEM) and a mixed hybrid FEM (MHFEM) in a horizontal two-dimensional domain modeling regional aquifer below...
EU-project AquaNES pursues the concept of combined natural and engineered water treatment systems (cNES) as response to water management challenges. AquaNES, with participation of microLAN, considers bank filtration (BF), managed aquifer recharge (MAR)/soil-aquifer treatment (SAT), constructed wetlands (CW) and plus engineered pre- and post-treatment options. In the latest paper of Aquanes you can read the latest developments, information about the future steps of the projectteam and the demonstration sites. In...
The computationally expensive variable density and salt transport numerical models hinder the implementation of simulation-optimization routines for coastal aquifer management. To reduce the computational cost, surrogate models have been utilized in pumping optimization of coastal aquifers. However, it has not been previously addressed whether surrogate modelling is effective given a limited number of numerical simulations with the seawater intrusion model. To that end, two surrogate-based optimization (SBO)...
This paper analyzes the impacts of climate change and human pressures on Yazd-Ardakan aquifer using the Hadley Centre Coupled Model, version 3 (HADCM3) circulation Model and A2 emission scenario. Water levels in the study aquifer were simulated using three-dimensional finite-difference groundwater model (MODFLOW 2000) with GMS 8.3 as pre- and postprocessing software. Input for groundwater recharge time series under the climate change scenarios were derived using a regression equation based on the cumulative...
Fast decline of groundwater levels in Pakistan requires the use of artificial recharging techniques to minimize the adverse effect of over pumping. A study was conducted in the Toba Tek Singh district, Punjab, Pakistan, to investigate aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) technology to recharge groundwater. The facility was developed by drilling a pumping/injection well and constructing the water storage tank along with developing the recharge mechanism. Three treatments of 51, 71, and 99 m3 of treated canal water...
