Wrexham Case Study

On average, each household in the area of Wrexham County Borough Council produces more than one tonne of waste every year.

However, great progress is being made in boosting recycling rates and reducing landfill– with households playing a major part in the reduction.

Wrexham now has approximately 30,000 households using a kerbside recycling scheme, called ‘Recycle with Michael’, with more set to join this year. The scheme covers plastic bottles, glass, mixed cans, aerosols, paper and garden waste. Several household recycling centres handle bulkier items, while local recycling points throughout Wrexham take everything from wood to car batteries.
