Guide to Ship Sanitation : Third Edition - Revised Publication Date June 2010
This revised 3rd edition of the guide has been prepared to reflect the changes in construction, design and size of ships since the 1960's and the existence of new diseases (eg. Legionnaires' disease) that were not foreseen when the 1967 guide was published.
The guide is divided into two main sections that follow the introductory chapter. The first section provides a summary of the health significance of disease associated with ships. The chapters in this first section discuss water safety, food safety, recreational water environments, ballast and waste disposal, Legionnaires' disease, persistent infectious agents and disease vectors. The second edition is structured around its intended users and begins with a chapter outlining roles and responsibilities aboard ship. The second section then continues with chapters for constructors, owners/operators, master and crew, port authorities, and finally port health authorities.
