The company relies on competitiveness in its operations, targeted investments in growing markets and innovation to deliver profitable growth over the long-term.
Air Liquide’s revenues amounted to € 15.4 billion in 2014, and its solutions that protect life and the environment represented more than 40% of sales. Air Liquide is listed on the Paris Euronext stock exchange (compartment A) and is a member of the CAC 40 and Dow Jones Euro Stoxx 50 indexes.
'Creative Oxygen', our signature
“Creative Oxygen” is the signature we use in all the countries where we operate. “Creative” embodies the endless inventiveness of Air Liquide’s teams. “Oxygen” references the history of Air Liquide. The Group has grown on the basis of oxygen; a vital resource for both industry and health. Over and above the molecule itself, oxygen is a source of inspiration for our teams to create new developments for our existing markets and for future business.
“Creative Oxygen” therefore refers to what we do, at the same time as embodying the inventiveness and creativity of our people. Since everyone is familiar with oxygen, our signature speaks to every audience. It supports our hundred-year-old brand and adds to its appeal by giving it a new impulse.
Our Number One Priority
For its employees, customers, suppliers and all those with whom Air Liquide interacts, on sites or on the road, safety is a top priority. As a result, a focus on safety is at the very heart of its corporate culture and part of its responsibility commitment
The sharing of experience is key to ensuring continuous improvement. Safety best practices and expertise are shared through networking between colleagues – supported by leading experts – suppliers and customers, encouraging greater awareness of high risk situations. The goal is to make safe practices and operational techniques a daily habit, enabling company missions to be performed with the highest possible reliability.
Results Constantly Improving
Safety performance, which has improved steadily for more than 20 years, attests to the active commitment of employees and the progress made throughout the world. In addition to contributing to the fulfillment of Air Liquide’s responsibility, excellence in safety is also a key competitiveness factor.
Air Liquide pursues a strategy of profitable growth over the long term, based on three pillars: operational competitiveness, targeted investments in growing markets, and innovation. This strategy is shaped by three major long-term trends: industry globalization and resource constraints, evolving consumption and demographics and, lastly, the growing appetite for innovation of individuals, businesses and society as a whole.
By staying competitive, Air Liquide is able to guarantee that its structural costs remain aligned with changes in the consumption needs of industrial customers and the evolution of healthcare prices. Through Group-wide initiatives and a multitude of local projects, in logistics and procurement for example, Air Liquide generates substantial recurring efficiencies. But competitiveness is about more than costs and prices; it is also about quality, reliability and safety, as well as about ensuring that the Group’s offer is backed by sound and ergonomic technological content. This is how the efficiency gains generated combine with the continuous improvement of existing offers and initiatives designed to accelerate innovation and technology make Air Liquide highly competitive.
Investing for Growth
Since 2011, in connection with ALMA, a €12-billion investment program (including €2 billion for acquisitions) has been laying the groundwork for the Group’s medium-term growth. This program, well underway, supports a global trend toward outsourcing industrial gas production. In Large Industries, customers in the chemical, refining and steelmaking industries are entrusting industrial gas production to specialists like Air Liquide, instead of producing it themselves. In addition to helping the Group's customers become more competitive, outsourcing also represents an important source of potential growth that guides Air Liquide’s investment and financing strategy. In Healthcare, this investment program has already financed a number of acquisitions, mainly in Europe but also in the rest of the world.
Project Selection and Funding
Within the framework of an extremely structured and disciplined process, potential projects are assessed and approved by a Resources and Investment Committee. To finance these projects, we look first to the steadily increasing cash flows generated by our existing operations. For very large-scale projects, as well as for acquisitions, we can also count on our loyal banking partners as well as on bondholders, with whom we have already partnered for our development in Europe, the United States, Singapore and China. We build loyalty with our investors and regularly meet with them to explain our development strategy.
The nature of the industrial investment differs from one World Business Line to the next: from gas production units for Large Industries, to filling centers, logistics equipment, storage facilities and management systems for Industrial Merchant, Electronics and Healthcare.
Our global leadership position today reflects our capacity for innovation. The inventiveness of our teams, which constantly interact with our customers and patients in an open ecosystem, enables the Group to continuously renew its business and anticipate challenges across its markets.
For Air Liquide, innovation is about science and entrepreneurial spirit. Ideas, expertise, technology and entrepreneurship are interlocking concepts of our innovation culture.
Since its founding, the Group has been constantly inventing new applications for its molecules, developing new technologies and services and pushing the traditional limits of its businesses.
Providing solutions for patients living with diabetes, developing hydrogen charging stations for clean electric vehicles, improving the technologies of oxygen production to reduce energy consumption: these are just a few of the many illustrations of Air Liquide’s capacity for innovation.
