About Us
The President and Owner of BCS, Dr. Jerzy “George” Lukasik (Link to CV) , established the company in 2000 while employed at the University of Florida as an Assistant Research Scientist and Professor. He graduated from the University of Florida with his Ph.D. in 1998 and has been actively involved in many scientific studies and business ventures. He started BCS as a single-person company, and has cultivated its growth into a multiperson efficient and reliable operation. He resigned from the University of Florida shortly after establishing BCS to dedicate his time and efforts to this laboratory business and focus mainly on its operation. Dr. Lukasik is involved in the daily supervision and operation of the company and interacts with clients and personnel at all times. His dedication and commitment to success is evident in his willingness to exceed client expectations.
Dr. Lukasik has over thirty significant publications in the field of BCS's specialization. Additionally, he has co-authored book chapters and review papers. He is identified by the United Nations World Health Organization (UN WHO) as a food virology authority. He has been on many national and international panels that assess microbial pollution and disinfection. He is a member of the Florida Society of Environmental Analysts, American Society of Microbiology, the US Building Envelope Science Institute, and the International Association of Water Quality.
BCS provides services which affect the public health on the most basic level. Even in a difficult economy, when people must make choices about how they spend their money, few will choose to risk the public health through infection from preventable diseases. BCS detects these disease-causing pathogens, validates methods for their inactivation, and, in short, keeps people safe.
The threat of biological contaminants in water, food, soil, and biosolids is an ever-present danger, and these contaminants will remain a danger to the people who consume them. The importance of clean food and water can not be overstated. Simply put, without the services of a company like BCS, people will have an increased risk of illness from pathogens found in everyday items, including drinking water and food. BCS helps local governments ensure the basic health of their people. For more information about drinking water standards, potential health effects and possible sources of contamination, visit www.epa.gov/safewater/mcl.html#mcls
In addition, companies with novel antimicrobial processes or/and products seek the expertise of BCS to prove their efficacy. Now, more than ever, the manufacturer, supplier, and consumer need to know that the product they provide or purchase performs as it should – for example, that their hand or surface sanitizer actually kills 99.9% of disease-causing bacteria or that a water bottle filter removes 99.99% percent of pathogens in drinking water. Our business has grown as more companies seek to validate their claims and provide their customers with a proven, high-quality product tested by an independent laboratory.
Furthermore, the spread of deadly epidemics (such as H1N1) and the news coverage surrounding these terrible disasters has led to an increased demand for pathogen-fighting technologies. Public awareness about the threat of biological contaminants has grown tremendously; thus, the demand for a company like BCS, which provides pathogen detection services, has also grown. Additionally, as the demand for more effective anti-microbial products increases, the need for our laboratory to test these products increases substantially.
The threat of biological warfare, including contamination of a city's water supply with easily accessible pathogens, is an unfortunate reality. As a result, government agencies on every level have taken an interest in the detection of pathogens – a specialty for BCS. BCS is registered with the State of Florida Department of Health and with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as an advanced pathogen detection laboratory. BCS is also registered with the EPA Laboratory Compendium and closely collaborates with various government agencies like the Center for Disease Control (CDC), EPA , US Department of Agriculture , US Geological Survey, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
BCS's business has grown steadily over the past ten years due to the ever-increasing demand for our services (in any economy), our meticulous dedication to detail, responsive service, excellent customer service, and competitive pricing. We project continued growth in the future.
