About Us
Beacon Environmental Services is a DoD ELAP and ISO 17025 accredited laboratory that specializes in the analysis of soil gas and air samples. Beacon is known for providing highly accurate and reliable soil gas and vapor intrusion data in the industry. Since 1991, the professionals at Beacon Environmental have supported environmental consultants and managers on thousands of projects for the U.S. EPA, DoD, DoE, state agencies and commercial clients in over 45 states, as well as internationally having worked in five continents in each of the past two years.
Beacon Environmental provides full service support to environmental consultants and managers, from soil gas sampling project design to post-survey analysis and data interpretation. The company assesses project options and designs the sampling and QA/QC plan to meet your needs and budget. The company can ship an easy-to-use BeSure Sample Collection Kit to you for self-conducted sampling or it can mobilize its personnel to collect the field samples.
Beacon Environmental can also provide a field team to perform a full turnkey survey, including marking the sample points with GPS equipment and collecting the samples. All Beacon Environmental field personnel are HAZWOPER trained and have worked on a wide variety of sites, including those with UXO, radiological, and chemical warfare agent concerns.
Beacon Environmental's laboratory analyzes the collected samples, interprets the resulting data and provides comprehensive reports - all with unrivalled accuracy, reliability, and timeliness.
Key Personnel
Beacon Environmental has earned an enviable reputation for providing accurate, reproducible data. Beacon Environmental's passive soil gas (PSG) samplers are extremely easy to use and offer the ability to sample in the subsurface or directly on the ground surface, with both field applications providing highly accurate results.
The principals of BEACON have many years of experience in characterizing sites for organic contaminants using innovative soil-gas sampling technologies. BEACON was founded in 1999 by Mr. Harry O'Neill, who is the company president and has managed and reviewed data from 1,000s of soil gas surveys. Prior to forming BEACON, Mr. O’Neill managed the soil-gas sampling program for Quadrel Services, Inc., an innovative company that led the acceptance of passive soil-gas sampling at the national and international level.
Mr. Steve Thornley is the company's Laboratory Director, who is responsible for sample analyses and ensures that all project samples are analyzed and reported following the highest level of quality assurance procedures in the industry. Mr. Thornley has analyzed and reported data from more than 50,000 soil-gas samples and follows established analytical procedures that allow BEACON to provide accurate, reliable, and defensible data.
Harry O'Neill was selected as the lead author to write the ASTM Standard for Passive Soil Gas Sampling that was approved December 1, 2011.
In addition, Beacon continues to demonstrate our continued support of the research community by aligning ourselves with several prominent universities to ensure we contribute to research and development in innovative soil gas and air testing methods.
