About Us
BIOTICA Bioquímica Analítica, S.L. is an Innovative Technology Based Company (ITBC), located in the Technological and Business Science Park of the Jaime I University of Castellón (Espaitec). In BIOTICA we develope rapid techniques of detection of microorganisms, as an alternative to traditional methods based on culture, so we can find out what bacteria and how much of it is present in a sample, in just one hour.
BIOTICA was born in 2004 thanks to a group of young scientists from the biotechnology sector with the support of the Center for Technological and Industrial Development (CDTI) through the Neotec Program of 2005, as well as the Institute of Small and Medium Enterprise of Valencia, IMPIVA) within the program of Creation of Technology-Based Companies.
Thus we became the first biotechnology company located in Espaitec and we have exceptional facilities for research, development and production of innovative techniques, and real scenarios for the design and testing of our products (living lab), where the end user can directly take part of the process.
We have specialized in the manufacture of magnetic particles in combination with antibodies to detect Legionella bacteria, and many of the products we have on the market whirl around this detection.
Our Technology
Our technology is based on the functionalization of magnetic particles of only a few hundred nanometers in diameter, to which we add on its surface antibodies capable of binding to certain bacteria. In the case of Legipid®, the antibodies are able to recognize and bind only to the Legionella present in a water sample. It is a quick and effective way to know if this bacteria is present in the sample being analyzed.
Then, once the bacterium is captured, we reveal its presence through an enzyme conjugated to a second antibody that binds only to the present Legionella. This enzyme is able to generate a color that increases with the amount of Legionella present in a sample.
