Canadian Business for Social Responsibility (CBSR)

Canadian Business for Social Responsibility (CBSR) is a professional association for forward thinking companies and business leaders across many sectors and regions in Canada. Canadian Business for Social Responsibility (CBSR) was established in 1995, when corporate social responsibility (CSR) was still a relatively new idea in Canada. When CBSR was established, our mandate was to help companies better engage and listen to their stakeholders as well as report more transparently through sustainability reporting. These are more or less standard activities today.

However, the problems facing society are so urgent and so complex that no single organization could possibly expect to address them on their own. That is why CBSR is focused on developing and facilitating collaborative frameworks using a Collective Impact approach to bring the right stakeholders together to address major challenges at the scale required.

We care about the things that are important to Canadians and we have observed that there are currently three separate national conversations taking place on innovation, sustainability and global competitiveness. We believe these should not be separate. To us, they are the same conversation and we are engaging Canadians to envision a greater leadership role for the private sector in this important conversation.

CBSR engages with our organizations to review their CSR and sustainability strategies and offer feedback, advice and customized support. We are creating new tools that help business professional implement transformational business models to position themselves for greater success and less exposure to social and environmental risks.

We nurture a community of CSR and sustainability professionals and enthusiasts to encourage learning, networking and collaboration that lead to innovative solutions to challenges of national importance. We lean in to specific projects where we can offer expertise and facilitation support.

We also develop communications assets and lead public engagement programs such as the new Do Business Like A Canadian campaign to amplify leadership case studies and help create common language and understanding among different groups across the country.
