Centre for Environmental Research, University of the West of Scotland
CER brings together environmental research interests of chemists, biologists, earth scientists, waste and environmental management staff in the School of Science. Our research covers fundamental aspects of earth processes, geochemical behaviour of trace elements and potentially toxic substances in solid and liquid systems through to organism-environment interaction in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. We develop chemical, biological and sociological measurement and assessment methods and study the potential impacts of climate change on community adaptation strategies. Our approach is applied to issues in waste and resource management, ecotoxicology and risk assessment in response to human and ecosystem health concerns. We have wider links to environmental regulation and policy development at local and international scale and work in partnership with other research groups to address implications for public and environmental health.
