CLADLINER offers high chemical resistance and anti-microbial performance in a single system… for the first time in the manhole lining industry providing the best manhole solutions. Having serviced collection systems for over 30 years, we have experience with a very wide variety of substrates, conditions, and infrastructure needs. The environment in the final wastewater processing stages includes very different conditions than the early parts of the collection system such as the manholes and lift stations. Even within these structures, conditions vary dramatically. Some lines show little corrosion, where others indicate very harsh conditions, even in the same areas. When the lining of these more aggressive areas began, most applications were carried out with epoxy technologies. The concept was simple; epoxies handle acidity, whereas concrete does not. The epoxy barrier protected the concrete from the Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in the system.

The high chemical resistance offers over 250 times the chemical resistance of calcium aluminate and is 200 times more chemically resistant than pure fused calcium aluminate, according to a study conducted by Florida Atlantic University, July 2016. In addition, CLADLINER products incorporate a formula that contains a broad-spectrum, highly effective antimicrobial agent called CladAM. CladAM has been clinically tested and has been shown to react with key proteins in a microbe’s outer membrane, blocking the transfer of necessary nutrients into the cell.

However, over the years, we have seen epoxy liners in manholes used less frequently, in favor of various cementitious liners, particularly calcium aluminate and pure fused calcium aluminate. The reasons are twofold: (1) simplicity, ease of application;  and (2) economics.

What has become evident in recent years is that those cementitious liners are not performing as well as had been hoped and definitely not as well as the traditional high-build epoxy systems. Not that epoxy liners have been without their problems. The complexity of some of the products, together with the need for very controlled application environments, has often resulted in expensive failures. Most of these failures have been caused by application challenges. With all the complexities of these systems, there is very little margin for error.

Therefore, the question becomes this: Do owners spend more money on a more complex and specialized system to improve performance, or settle for the sporadic performance of the cementitious liners?

With this in mind, we spent five years developing CLADLINER. CLADLINER is the first high-build, zero VOCs, hybrid epoxy of its kind on the market. It combines the ease of application and economics of a cementitious liner with the performance of a high-build epoxy liner. A Florida Atlantic University Study conducted in 2016 attests to the chemical resistance offered by this exciting new category of product. CLADLINER is also the first high build epoxy liner that offers a proprietary broad spectrum antimicrobial additive. The chemical resistance, together with the antimicrobial properties, makes it unique in the wastewater coating industry.

CLADLINER can be applied to damp surfaces and in the humid conditions traditionally found in underground collection system structures. It can be applied by hand trowel or sprayed by traditional mortar wet-spray equipment. CLADLINER can be applied as thin as 1/8” on new structures that need a corrosion barrier, or as thick as an inch in a single application where necessary.
