Climate Counts is a collaborative effort to bring consumers and companies together to address solutions around global climate change. We use world-renowned CDP company scoring data to rate the world`s largest companies on their commitment to addressing climate change. When consumers take action and raise their voices on issues that matter to them, businesses pay attention. We have no interest in doom-and-gloom environmental reporting and instead believe that positive change starts with a hopeful outlook that real change is possible and that the relationship between companies and consumers can become more substantive and constructive.
The short answer: Climate change is an urgent global problem with social, economic and environmental consequences, resulting primarily from our reliance — and the reliance of the businesses we support — on fossil fuels like coal and oil.
In 2007, The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a group of hundreds of the world's foremost climate scientists, concluded for the first time that global warming is 'unequivocal' and that human activity is the main driver. Most scientists believe that we have an approximately 10-year window to significantly reduce our global warming pollution if we are to avoid the most dangerous effects of global warming.
There's a lot you can do every day to fight global climate change, and our allies at many dedicated organizations provide great information.
But you also have the power to make choices and raise your voices to motivate business to take action to fight climate change, and that's what Climate Counts is all about.
The Industry Innovators (i2) Partner Program
Measure. Reduce. Report. Be a corporate leader on climate change.
Addressing global climate change is humankind's defining challenge. It will take all of us to get it done. Business has an enormous opportunity to participate. And to lead.
The Climate Counts Industry Innovator (i2) partner program is designed to give forward-thinking companies the tools they need to carry the climate issue forward with consumers, investors and internal stakeholders. Climate Counts can help you make the business case for climate leadership and give you real-time information to be more successful in a frenetic market. We are learning what is working in business and what's not, what is capturing C-level attention and how companies are engaging on the front lines. Most importantly, we are developing a growing understanding of what motivates consumers and the marketplace to see the critical issue of global climate change as an opportunity to improve how we shop and how we live.
How We Can Help
Climate Counts – with the support of a network of trained consultants – is now offering three tiers of membership:
- Gold Level: $20,000/year
- Silver Level: $10,000/year
- Bronze Level: $5,000/year
Each level has a unique value proposition, but each includes the following:
- Inclusion in Climate Counts annual scoring process
- Access to peer learning opportunities
- Access to industry benchmarking services and trend analyses
- Tools for amplifying your GHG reduction progress to internal/external stakeholders
In 2011, Climate Counts teamed up with the University of New Hampshire Sustainability Institute to bring our message to college students.
Since then, we’ve realized the impact of having power in numbers. When students unite around a common goal, big companies listen and great things happen.
What It Is
Climate Counts wants to be one of your most important allies in inspiring meaningful climate action on your campus. When individual consumers make climate-conscious choices, companies listen, but when entire campuses flex their consumer muscle, the impact on companies is tremendous. We need your help in amplifying more voices committed to changing the way businesses think about their response to the global climate crisis. Everyone shops. Everyone has a voice.
How It Works
By bringing the Climate Counts campaign to your campus, you can both show big business that you and your campus community are paying attention to their climate action (or inaction) and strengthen your school's position as a leader in sustainability which is increasingly making campuses more and more competitive. We need your help on three fronts:
- Engaging students, faculty & staff on how to become climate-conscious consumers & activists.
- Creating a social media buzz around the ongoing Climate Counts' Campaigns.
- Advocating for responsible procurement with school administrators & sustainability staff.
Impacts We've Had
Thanks to the hundreds of consumers who joined the Climate Counts Green Watching Campaign and got the attention of global media giant News Corp, the owner of Fox, the Wall Street Journal and the New York Post! News Corp responded and more importantly did not deny that its news coverage of climate issues is completely out of sync with the company's commitment to action.
Climate Counts uses CDP’s highly regarded climate performance score as our primary indicator of company performance on climate change. The scoring ranges from “A” (best) to “E” (worst) and assesses the level of action taken on climate change evidenced by the company's CDP response. The methodology to score company performance has been developed by CDP with input from our scoring partners, responding companies, investors, NGOs and other partners.
