As with many great business legends, the golf course is at the heart of the EnSo story. Dirk Daude and Terry Walpole met in 2004 when they discussed starting up their own sewage treatment company. They had previously worked together in the wastewater industry for many years and kept in touch on the golf course. Both Terry and Dirk had thoughts and ideas about how to improve upon the inefficiencies and deficiencies of existing manufacturers systems and how to bring ideas for NPD to the table - hence EnSo was born.

Dirk and Terry come from a process and engineering background and were driven to produce standard and bespoke sewage treatment solutions that worked, and worked very well in a variety of situations, rather than produce standard off-the-shelf packages. They were, and continue to be, driven by the product rather than commercial factors: quality versus volume. This ensures that EnSo products are as efficient and cost effective as possible.

From the beginning of the business, being run from home, to today, all production is carried out in-house using high-quality items bought in for each specific function. We then adapt them as necessary and fit them together to form our range of bespoke sewage treatment solutions.

Having production so close to hand enables us to keep an eye on manufacture and quality and make instant decisions where necessary. We were one of the first companies to understand the benefits of polyethylene in plant manufacture and our range makes use of this where practicable. Our Ocean Classic Range of sewage treatment plant underwent rigorous testing in Aachen, Germany to become fully compliant to BS EN 12566-3 and is CE accredited.

Among the first projects that EnSo were involved with were a large fast food establishment in Bognor Regis, where a bespoke sewage treatment works located below the car-park helped eliminate wastewater and grease issues; and an equine veterinary hospital where the wash down water and surgical waste water is treated by an EnSo packaged treatment system before discharging to a SSSI.

Several years on, we are still looking after these same customers by providing regular servicing and maintenance cover.

Other notable projects include the installation of a membrane biofilter treatment system located beneath the coach park at the Holiday Inn, Winchester with treated effluent discharging into a drinking water aquifer; export of several plants to Switzerland; refurbishment/conversion of an existing extended aeration plant to a multi-stage SAF filter at an exclusive hotel in the New Forest, using the exiting site assets and adapting our modular system to provide the exact treatment needed. We have built strong relationships in the residential care sector and consider ourselves expert in specifying solutions for this sector where usage and medicinal composition of the wastewater can potentially cause numerous problems.
