Fairport Containers Ltd is part of the Fairport Holdings Group of companies, which also includes Fairport Construction Equipment, Fairport Garages, Fairport Storage and Fairport Properties.
Fairport Containers was formed in 1993 and is preparing to celebrate its 20th year in business next year. The company was part of the Fairport Engineering Group which was formed in 1982 by the founder, John Porter, who headed up a management team and bought a part of the Leonard Fairclough Group. The company name takes 'Fair' from Fairclough and 'Port' from Porter. It originally carried out structural steelwork and project engineering for the coal mining industry and later for the cement and quarrying industries.
A family affair
In 1992 Andrew Porter, son of founder John, who already had his own logistics company, joined the Fairport Group. In 1993 Biffa Waste Services were going out to tender to refurbish its waste containers and Andrew Porter and the Fairport team were successful in obtaining the contract using their engineering and logistics experience.
Fairport Containers Ltd commenced its refurbishment operations from a relatively small part of its 150,000 sq ft, eight-acre site in Adlington, Lancashire and has now expanded into the majority of the site. Since launching with Biffa as its main client, it has grown and developed its customer base, carrying out refurbishment and modifications for other leading lights within the waste disposal industry such as Veolia, Sita, Viridor, D S Smith, Severn Waste, various local authorities and many other private waste operators.
Fairport Containers is run by Managing Director, Steve Collinson, who has been with the Fairport Group since its formation in 1982 and since Fairport Containers Ltd formation in 1993. Steve has worked his way up from the shop floor, where he joined at the age of 16, to General Manager to his current role of Managing Director which he has held since 2007.
In 2007 the company further expanded its operations with a depot in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire and in 2008 commenced its mobile repair service. In addition to refurbishment, the company carries out re-modelling to all types of waste containers and purchases, remodels and re-sells containers. The company, through its sister company, operates its own transport fleet of 45ft articulated vehicles and Moffett mounted fork lift trucks to load, unload and site the containers.
The Fairport Group is still owned by the Porter family today, with Andrew's son David being the latest member to join the team. In addition to the waste container and refurbishment business it also manufactures construction equipment and flexible drive and carries out commercial vehicle repairs, as well as logistic and storage services via its sister company, Andrew Porter UK Ltd.
Fairport Containers has first class facilities across two UK sites to ensure the highest standards of service for our customers.
Based at Chorley, Lancashire, in the north and Aston Clinton, Buckinghamshire in the south, our premises, procedures and practices conform to the strict requirements of ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001, which encompass management systems, environmental management systems and occupational health and safety.
Our spacious depots and large storage areas allow us to process more than 150 containers each week - that's more than 7,500 every year - meaning no job is too large.
Fairport Containers' unrivalled selection of second hand steel waste containers kept in stock means we are best placed to be able to provide the containers you require at short notice. And our impressive stock of spares means we can repair and refurbish a wide variety of steel waste containers with a fast turnaround.
We have invested in high-quality plant technology to ensure the best standard of finish on our steel waste containers and implement strict quality control checks so you can be sure your containers will arrive just as you want them.
And our fleet of six trailer-mounted Moffett fork trucks as well as 20 45-ft trailers means we are able to collect and deliver across the UK with ease, again making life easier for our customers.
Fairport Containers is proud to be Impact Plastics' UK & Ireland sole distributor for their new range of waste container lids
Manufactured in the USA, the innovative new lids have a range of benefits over those previously available to the UK market, including:
- An average lifespan which is five times longer than any other lid on the market
- More cost effective than previous lids
- Additional hinges for added strength
- Increased flexibility to minimise damage
- A range of designs, colours and sizes available
After extensive research and trials we are pleased to be able to offer the lids for sale in the UK & Ireland. All lids contain a UV inhibitor which prevents the sun drying out the polymers in the plastic, which subsequently makes the lid brittle and prone to cracking, which has been a common problem in recent years. They have also been tested to endure extreme weather conditions in Antarctica.
The lids come in various innovative designs, for example the Storm Lid which has a small internal hatch for easy access and is designed in such a way that it prevents rain leaking into the container.
Our lids can be purchased individually, or installed while your containers are being refurbished or upgraded.
At Fairport Containers Ltd we have our own fleet of vehicles to collect and deliver our customers' commercial waste containers.
Run and operated by our sister company, Andrew Porter Limited, we handle a fleet of 26 trucks and trailers, meaning we are able to collect and deliver across the UK with ease, making life easier for our customers.
Our bespoke fleet of vehicles is equipped with mounted Moffett fork trucks, which our drivers use to facilitate the quick and easy loading and unloading of your waste containers. This benefits our customers in that they do not need to provide specially trained fork truck drivers to receive or dispatch loads that we carry for them, saving on training and staff hours.
Wherever you are in the UK, we can collect or deliver goods to your depot within a 10-day timeframe and can make priority arrangements for urgent jobs when possible.
We pride ourselves on offering the highest standards of waste container services in the UK, alongside excellence in customer service. Our in-house fleet of vehicles is another way in which we add value to our provision, ensuring out customers will have the minimum amount of downtime when we are handling their container stock. All of our vehicles are fitted with high-tech tracking devices so that we can monitor progress on your delivery as accurately as possible.
