We believe that doing the right thing is good for business. Most companies that do any philanthropic activity at all do it as an afterthought. At GreenScience, it is simply the way we operate. We do not compromise on running an efficient and profitable business, yet everything we do is done for maximum social, environmental and financial benefit.
Every employee at GreenScience is well compensated for her work. Everyone gets health benefits, free education courses, profit sharing… and every employee is a shareholder. Environmental stewardship is a team activity at GreenScience.
Through our ongoing partnerships with NGOs and charitable organizations, we employ youth at risk, immigrants and other people who have difficulty finding fulfilling and challenging jobs. We believe that the future of our society depends on it.
The current NIMBY practice of hauling organic waste to landfills hundreds of kilomoters away is a waste of fuel, time and space. We deal with everything we collect in a small clean facility within a five kilometer radius of its source. Not that you’d notice, it doesn’t smell. Maybe you’ll notice that there are fewer long-haul garbage trucks on the road.
5% of our pre-tax profits are given back to the community though in-kind and cash donations. Simple, effective and our responsibility as a successful business.
Garbage isn’t garbage. It’s a resource. We waste our waste. Everything we collect is worm food which converted into just one thing: the most fertile, hydrophyllic and natural soil amendment on the planet, namely worm castings.
Everything we do in our daily operations is done in an environmentally sensible way. We don’t have disposable cups by our coffee machine. We print documents as rarely as possible, and when we must print, we don’t use virgin paper. And we’re the only company we know of that gives employees a mileage allowance for riding transit or a bike!
You’ve seen our video. If not, click here. We believe that the nutrients in the residuals we process belong back in the soil. And to show you, we install an urban farm adjacent to every OR2S factory we build. It is fertilized with our own worm castings, and grows local food and greenery right in the community. A small step in the right direction -towards food security.
