Our family has been involved in the waste management business for over 40 years in Ireland.  

Our father Bernard Buckley started the business with one truck and a lot of ambition. Sadly, our father has passed away but the family are still running the business and driving Greyhound Recycling forward into the future with that same ambition.  

A lot has changed from that first bin truck. One our first memories as kids, was of sorting coloured collection dockets at the kitchen table with our Mum. Today, we are servicing over half million customers, emptying in excess of 20,000 bins per day using leading edge technology and systems.   

Our family has been at the forefront of innovative change in the industry over the last 40 years, ranging from helping Ireland come from zero recycling to being one of the highest recycling nations in Europe. In recent years we have helped save the Irish taxpayer over €50m by privatising household collections in Dublin.  

Greyhound has been built on the back of generations of experience and a simple philosophy that has not changed despite our technological advances.

Greyhound Household enters South County Dublin market
In April 2011 Greyhound Household entered the South County Dublin waste management market after a successful and competitive tender process. Greyhound was recognised as the preferred waste management service provider by South Dublin County Council to take ownership of the complex and the demanding task of collecting the household waste of all residents within South County Dublin.

Greyhound Household enters Dublin City market
In January 2012 Greyhound Household then entered the Dublin City waste management market after a successful and competitive tender process. Greyhound was recognised as the logical choice by Dublin City Council to take ownership of the complex and demanding task of collecting the household waste of all residents within Dublin City. This was down to our strong offering, well-established infrastructure and high standards around the service we provide to our valuable customers.

Greyhound only had a matter of weeks to make the transfer from Dublin City Council work and managed to deliver a household waste collection service to the people of the City of Dublin in that time.

We are proud of the journey we have taken. We did have some significant challenges along the way and have made some mistakes. However, we have learned from them and truly believe that our culture of continuous improvement has only made us stronger and more determined to consistently deliver ‘World Class’ service and value to our loyal customers.

Greyhound Household enters Galway market
Subsequently, in February 2013, Greyhound Household spotted an opportunity to serve the waste management needs of the citizens of Galway City in the same fashion, with the same high level of customer service and value as we currently do with our Dublin City and South Dublin customers.

The entry into Galway has been a massive success and we have new customers signing up with us every day. We have delivered significant savings to our customers in the west whilst maintaining the high level of customer service, a keen pricing structure and distinct value in comparison to our competitors.
