About Us
CMS Group
The Group CMS was established in 1975 and operates in the field of mechanical engineering and manufacturing for third parties. Currently 7 companies and 14 plants, located in Marano sul Panaro, Vignola and Modena, compose the group. Since April 2013 the Group CMS has opened a manufacturing plant in China. What characterizes more our Group are the technical skills, which are various but converging , developed over time by our firms, that made it possible to address to the national and international market with a strong structure, able to offer services and products characterized by high quality standards.
“From the idea to finished product”, our claim, represents us perfectly. From design, to engineering, to production, assembly and testing, the Group CMS can offer its customers a complete cycle, characterized by a high degree of innovation. These elements are essential when working with big clients, such as Tetra Pak, among others, Alstom, Sidel, Bosch and Bühler.
The focus on Corporate Social Responsibility and its principles are another feature that strongly distinguishes the business philosophy of our Group. For our employees, about 500 only in Italy, the Group CMS , for example, has implemented a corporate welfare program, called “Better Factory Better Life”, that provides among other benefits, the kindergarten, the summer camp and also several special deals with shops that can be extended to the whole family.
In 2011 a strategic plan, focused on growth, innovation and diversification of business areas, has been defined. The choice of internationalization is an important part of the development plan. As planned, in 2013 the new plant C.M.S. China, located in the area of Wujiang, near Shanghai, was opened.

Our History
1975
ESTABLISHMENT
On April 10th 1975, the C.M.S. partnership was established in Vignola, with the capital of 1,000,000 Italian lira.
1978
OVP CONSTITUTION
First meeting with a customer that would be crucial for the company’s future growth and development.
OVP was established, that was specialized in mechanical assemblies and was incorporated into C.M.S. in 2004.
1980
CMS SPA AND CONSTITUTION MVA
C.M.S. became a public company.
MVA was established, a company specialized both in medium-high serial production and small quantities production, as well as components such as hydraulic pumps.
1985
FGR CONSTITUTION
F.G.R. was established, that is specialized in engineering on contract.
1991
OSL CONSTITUTION
OSL was set up to develop a special work organization tool designed by C.M.S.; the company focuses on production management systems.
1993
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
C.M.S.’s in-house Research & Development department was set up.
1998
POPPI CONSTITUTION
POPPI was established, that deals with iron and steel sheet bending and laser cutting.
1999
FORPACK CONSTITUTION
FORPACK was established, that manufactured packaging machines and was incorporated into C.M.S. S.p.A. in 2004.
2001
FILLING SYSTEMS
A Modena-based company was acquired, that originally handled bottling plants but was then converted to carry out assembly operations and is now trading under the name of FILLING SYSTEMS.
2003
CO.MA.RI. CONSTITUTION
CO.MA.RI. was established, the company that makes waste compactors.
2007
NURSERY OF THE COMPANY
The company crèche was created, called “Il Paese dei Colori” (The Land of Colours).
2008
INTERNATIONALIZATION
C.M.S. S.p.A. inaugurated its internationalization strategy.
2009
COORDINATION COMPANY
Coordination was set up between the group’s companies, resulting in periodic meetings and laying out common strategies.
2010
ESTABLISHMENT OF D&E DEPARTMENT
The D&E department, Development & Engineering, was set up to quickly meet customer requirements in creating prototypes.
2012
CMS CHINA AND SPARE PARTS DEPARTMENT
A decision was made to invest in a production facility in China in order to meet the needs of customers located there.
The construction of the Chinese plant began and C.M.S. Precision Mechanical Manufacturing (Wujiang) Co., Ltd. was set up, while the activity began in a temporary location. The Supply Chain network of companies was set up, a new opportunity to encourage common initiatives with Make Italia srl in the area of expanded supply chains. The Spare Parts Project was activated, located in a dedicated production area and equipped with the necessary technologies specifically aimed at the bottling line sector.
2013
OPENING OF CMS CHINA
April 10th is the opening day of the new factory C.M.S. China. The new site is dedicated to the production for the Chinese market. The building, of approximately 7000 square meters with a total extension of 14000mq, is equipped with all the latest equipment, already present in the Italian plants.

Sustainability Report
The Sustainability Report is for the companies of the Group a way to communicate their plans and initiatives related to Corporate Social Responsibility, with the aim of encouraging dialogue and debate. The approach of C.M.S S.p.A to sustainability is based on the belief that actions in the social, environmental and economic areas, allow the firm to obtain a distinctive competitive advantage and take the opportunity to generate added value, to be shared with all stakeholders.
The Sustainability Report has been prepared by the Communication office, in close coordination with the Executive Board and CSR manager, based on the data and information provided by the Human Resources office, the Administration and Finance offices, and Security and Environmental division.
C.M.S., the lead company of the Group, has published its annual report since 2008 and FGR starting from 2010
