Serving the specialty fabrics industry since 1912
On September 12, 1912, fourteen manufacturers of canvas and awnings met at the Brown Palace Hotel in Denver and formed the National Tent & Awning Association. The manufacturers decided to establish the trade association initially to set standard weights and prices for canvas products, actions that would be considered illegal today. They also sought to form a unified voice to counter the price-setting strategies of their suppliers, the cotton mills. Since this first gathering, the association has expanded in scope and purpose to become the largest textile trade association in the world. Today, the Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI) ranks in the top ten percent of all the thousands of U.S. trade associations in size of membership, operating budget and professional size.
The Industrial Fabrics Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization established in 1994 by IFAI’s Board of Directors to complement the association’s various efforts on behalf of the people and companies in the specialty fabrics industry. The Foundation is now separately incorporated and governed by an independent board of directors. IFF’s educational scholarship and research grants are supported entirely by individual and corporate tax-deductible contributions.
The Foundation mission is three-pronged:
- to support research and study regarding specialty fabrics
- to provide public insight and information regarding specialty fabrics
- to engage in other charitable activities approved by the IFF Board of Directors for the benefit of the industry
The Industrial Fabrics Foundation has a vision of a well-educated workforce, with the knowledge and skills to bring quality, innovation and growth to our industry. The Foundation’s programs provide unique opportunities and access to education for current employees and their family members, as well as future employees. To accomplish this, the Foundation collaborates with individual, corporate, academic and other nonprofit partners who share the belief in education as the cornerstone of a strong and vital specialty fabrics industry.
IFF Scholarship Program
The Industrial Fabrics Foundation awards scholarships each year to students enrolled in accredited colleges, universities or technical schools. Since the inception of the Scholarship Program, IFF has awarded nearly $200,000 in tuition aid for students pursuing advanced education.
IFF Innovation Award
The IFF Innovation Award aims to inspire companies from around the globe to not only come up with great ideas, but to make them happen. We want to tell the stories of incredible companies who are leading the way to uncharted territories. We want these companies and their stories to inspire others in the specialty fabrics industry and to act as catalysts for the next great innovation.
Innovation is at the heart of creating a specialty fabrics industry that will transform the 21st century. Help the Industrial Fabrics Foundation (IFF) recognize the best of the specialty fabrics industry innovators.
