Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology (IEST)

The Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology (IEST), founded in 1953, is a multidisciplinary, international society whose members are internationally recognized for their contributions to the environmental sciences in the areas of contamination control in electronics manufacturing and pharmaceutical processes; design, test, and evaluation of commercial and military equipment; and product reliability issues associated with commercial and military systems. IEST sponsors and participates in regular technical conferences, including ESTECH, the IEST annual technical meeting and exposition; Aerospace Testing Seminar; Space Simulation Conference; International Symposium on Product Quality and Integrity (RAMS); and International Confederation of Contamination Control Societies (ICCCS). The Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology (IEST), a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit technical society, is the foremost organization addressing issues connected with contamination control. IEST is an ANSI-accredited standards-developing organization; Secretariat of ISO/TC 209 Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments; Administrator of the ANSI-accredited US TAG to ISO/TC 209; and a founding member of the ANSI-accredited US TAG to ISO/TC 229 Nanotechnologies.

IEST members enjoy educational and networking opportunities available not only at ESTECH, the IEST annual technical meeting, but at the Fall Conference and Chapter seminars and classes held throughout the year. Through articles and papers published in the Journal of the IEST, they are kept informed about current technology; and through elected and appointed offices, are given the opportunity to develop leadership skills and provide a valuable service to their fellow professionals.

Technical Services
IEST has instituted a program of standards and practices in order to publish and disseminate up-to-date, reliable, technical information within each of its divisions. This is accomplished through a series of Standards and Recommended Practices (RPs) providing standardized procedures based upon peer-approved applications of environmental technology. These documents are formulated by IEST Working Groups.

IEST has sponsored revision efforts of Federal Standards such as FED-STD-209, MIL-STD-781, MIL-STD-810, and MIL-STD-1246 (now IEST-STD-1246D). The IEST Standards and Practices program administers WG-DTE043: MIL-STD-810G, the Working Group that provides expert support to this constantly evolving standard. To view further information regarding Recommended Practices, Standards, and other technical documents for sale by IEST, visit our Publications area. If you are interested in actively participating in an IEST Working Group, we welcome you to observe a Working Group meeting during ESTECH or the IEST Fall Conference.

To globally expand and communicate the knowledge of contamination control, nanotechnology facilities, and test and reliability. This is accomplished through the development of Recommended Practices and Standards by a community dedicated to professional collaboration, training, and education.
