Environmental testing laboratories are facing an increasingly challenging marketplace, characterized by low prices and slim margins. Having a comprehensive laboratory information management system (LIMS) to improve productivity has become critical for commercial environmental labs to remain competitive in this difficult business landscape.
Laboratories that analyze drinking water and wastewater form a critical component of our public health infrastructure, guided by criteria in legislation including the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and the National Pollution Discharge Elimination Program (NPDEP). These facilities are required to handle high volumes of sewage and drinking water to analyze for wet chemistry and microbiology before discharge into community water systems. This requires the facilities to maintain continuous sampling programs,...
University and non-profit laboratories often mirror commercial or municipal laboratories in more than a few processes. Many times, a COTS (configurable, off the shelf) LIMS may easily fit into a university setting to provide much needed quality control and proper data storage, while at the same time being affordable.
