Meteosim was founded in 2003 as a spin-off from the alliance between researchers from the Department of Astronomy and Meteorology of the Faculty of Physics at the University of Barcelona (Spain) and the American company Meso Inc. (New York), which enjoys worldwide recognition in the field of meteorology.

In recent years, the needs of engineering and consulting services with regard to issues of climate change have grown considerably, in particular in the public sector, but also, increasingly, in the private sector.

Climate change is a global phenomenon, but its impact is seen locally. Therefore, having regional future scenarios is essential so as to enable the correct design of adaptation plans both for countries (especially developing countries) and for regions, cities and economic sectors.
Our experience in climate resilience covers areas such as water resources, transport infrastructure (roads, bridges, ports, etc.) and a whole range of economic activities.
We develop early warning systems (EWS) and solutions to respond to various problems related to risks and emergencies, in order to support the decision-making process.
Our approach is based on the combination of high horizontal resolution, numerical weather forecasting models, with specific risk simulation models.
This enables risk situations to be detected and early warnings to be given, and allows for the optimisation of the allocation of resources in response to emergencies.
In addition, our risk management solutions incorporate a risk map display module that is designed in such a way as to facilitate quick decision-making by the people in charge of public and private emergency control centres.
We have developed a comprehensive methodology to adapt meteorological models to each geographical area, by striving for the optimal physical configuration, improving the physiographic databases (uses of land, topography, etc.), and integrating observational data. All of these aspects have a significant impact on the modelling results.
The domain of the mesoscale meteorological modelling tools and the existence of a proprietary high performance computing system, enables us to provide a wide range of operational services.

The various solutions are designed and created in a specific and customised way for each of our customers (the media, mobile applications, insurance and reinsurance companies, experts, ski resorts, etc.).
Meteorological and oceanographic phenomena can significantly affect the smooth running and management of marine and coastal activities, and can have a negative impact on the safety and cost of these activities and the environment in which they take place.
Meteorological and marine modelling systems enable any potential risks to which a specific maritime activity may be exposed to be diagnosed. These methodologies enable exposure to the aforementioned potential impacts to be assessed and quantified.
We specialise in the preparation of climate studies and marine forecasting tools which support the different phases of a project or operation (design, construction and exploitation) and provide a detailed diagnosis of the environmental conditions in the area of activity.
These tools also lead to optimisation in the design of infrastructure (lower costs) and aid the decision-making process, thus preventing the exposure of infrastructure and workers to risk situations.

In particular, at Meteosim, we have shown commitment to the development of climate services that facilitate the design of strategies of adaptation to climate change in key sectors of society, such as agriculture, water and energy management and the construction of infrastructure.
