The user simply holds the meter at eye level while facing the wind, and wind speed is indicated by the position of a white pith ball in the tube. Two scales are provided: low (2 to 10 mph) and high (4 to 66 mph). Covering a hole at the top of the meter allows reading on the higher scale.
