Oil Pollution Environmental Control ltd is a UK based Company that was formed in 1980 to continue with the development and to capitalise on previous developments of specialist oil skimmer devices, namely mop skimmers which had been produced over the previous four years by the individuals who later became closely associated with the Company.
As early as 1976 it was recognised by the individuals that, although major incidents involving oil spills from tankers created serious pollution, there were more important considerations to be given to the protection of the environment through the lack of control and haphazard disposal methods of highly toxic materials, including chemicals and oil from industry. After a careful study it was decided to put time and effort into the development of products and equipment which could deal with industrial pollution control.
By 1983 Oil Pollution Environmental Control Ltd had developed a sound base for continued operation through the appointment of agents and distributors, not only in the UK but also in North and South America, Scandinavia, Europe and Australasia. The business has continued to develop to become a truly global operation.
As this web site shows and illustrates by way of case histories and an extensive product list, Oil Pollution Environmental Control Ltd and its staff have developed considerable expertise in the handling of all types of oil spill clean up and control. For a number of years the Company was appointed as an official contractor to the British Government to assist in oil spill clean up work as and when required, in the event of major incidents occurring around our coastline.
We were heavily involved in the ‘Sivand’ incident when 6,000 tonnes of Nigerian light crude oil escaped in the Humber estuary and we were responsible for the procurement of a suitable off shore supply vessel and the deployment of Force 7 to assist in the clean up operation.
The Company continues to expand its market in respect to industrial installations. The product range provides a very effective efficient system for controlling potential pollution by reducing, if not completely preventing emissions of pollution into inland water courses such as streams, rivers, canals and reservoirs or, in the event of refineries, creating coastal and estuarine pollution in respect to loading/off-loading of tankers at the refinery jetties.
The industrial users include major steel works, both in the UK and overseas. We also provide a specialist advice service which invariably culminates in contractor supply of equipment and materials to deal with extraordinary specialist solutions to potential or existing pollution problems.
The Company will continue to support initiatives which will bring about the control of pollution and to help reduce the effects of toxic wastes polluting the waters whether they be inland, coastal or open sea.
