Orchid has the technology solutions to change this practice for the better and recover forms of renewable energy that can be used as an alternative to fossil fuels.

Orchid decarbonising the fuel chain
Over millennia the earth has locked away carbon deposits to create a healthy balance of CO2 in the air. We have evolved depending upon this delicate balance for survival. The more we drill for oil or gas and mine for coal the more this healthy balance is distorted through the extra release of carbon dioxide, often referred to as a green house warming gas.

Orchid produces a range of sustainable fuels from materials that have been traditionally been sent to landfill. These alternative fuels can be used to produce renewable electricity, green heat and sustainable road transport fuels. This helps to decarbonise the environment by reducing our dependence on coal, crude oil and natural gas.

The first Orchid facility built at Huyton on Merseyside is capable of treating up to 80,000 tonnes per annum of municipal waste. This facility demonstrates the capability of the Orchid process to recover clean recyclates, produce a range of sanitised renewable fuel products and divert significant percentages of waste away from landfill. In so doing it meets UK Government strategies on waste and supports Government targets on climate change.
