About Us:
Our pressure vessels have been setting industry standards ever since the 1970s, when seawater desalination with reverse osmosis (RO) membrane technology first became a viable alternative to traditional (thermal) methods. Today we serve a wide range of industries, including Oil & Gas, Food & Beverage, Pharma, Electronics, power generation, and wastewater treatment.
With Codeline, Pentair has been at the forefront of every major development in membrane housing technology. We pioneered the filament-wound fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) vessels that dominate the industry today. Resulting in the largest installed base numbers in the field. Continuous research & development supports our leading position and the competitive advantages our customers can achieve in terms of reliability, durability, and total cost of ownership.
The exploding worldwide demand for desalination technology has attracted all kinds of vessel suppliers. However, the production of drinking water is a serious business, and a pressure vessel is not a commodity. Major incidents with poorly designed copies have demonstrated the need for rigorous quality control, full adherence to the certification standards ASME, ISO 9001, NSF-61, and DWI, as well as independent third-party inspection. Codeline is the first manufacturer to conform to the American National Standard for safe vessel construction, the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel code.
Our contributions to a thriving industry go far beyond perfectly smooth and fail-safe shells. We make the case for enduring performance with frequent innovations that make a real difference in demanding applications. Cases in point are our threaded side-ports that facilitate easy repairs and replacements, and the OCTA technology that finally made flat sealings in circular vessels a reality.
Pentair is committed to your success. As the world’s leading manufacturer and most trusted name in membrane vessels, we can help you to maximize the performance of your water treatment and purification systems. With Codeline technology being used on every continent, and well over 400,000 membrane housings currently in service, we have a track record to be proud of. Our tradition of excellence is the result of a relentless focus on practical and economical progress. It has earned us a reputation of quality and reliability, and the trust of many long-term clients. Everyone at Pentair is proud to work on sustainable solutions in a changing world.
Codeline. The global standard in pressure vessels.
History
The Codeline history is rich with industry firsts that set the standard for quality and reliability. We were the first to introduce ASME Section X certified FRP membrane housings, and the first to offer NSF61 product certifications for membrane housings.
In the 1980s, Advanced Structures produced 4 inch and 8 inch diameter FRP membrane housings as the series U4 and U8. Advanced Structures introduced the 4B series along with the E8 and E8/SP series in 1986. Both models have long been the benchmark in the industry.
Our company name was changed to Codeline in 1999 when, as part of the Essef acquisition that also added structural pressure vessels to our product line, we became a Pentair company.
Pentair Codeline accelerated the pace of innovation and introduced the 80R and 80A series. In 2009, Pentair Water India became the global supplier for Codeline membrane housings, allowing us to centralize production and introduce the Codeline 80S, 80H and 80U series. All products are manufactured in accordance with the Pentair integrated management system, using advanced manufacturing technology in ISO-certified facilities.
Research & Development
The first Codeline membrane housing was introduced in 1976. Ever since, Codeline has been continuously shaping the water treatment industry with pioneering developments driven by industry leading expert engineers.
The Codeline Research & Development department has highly qualified specialists in the areas of FRP vessel manufacturing. The team of R&D professionals works in close coordination with other Codeline departments to meet specific customer requirements. The benefits of this full integration of research and product development are visible in the various solutions for our customers across the globe.
In the course of four decades, the team in our center for manufacturing excellence in Goa, India, has developed into a global community of dedicated experts who continue their tradition of setting industry standards.
Intensive knowledge exchange within international networks, other Pentair companies and technical partnerships has created an environment in which solutions are developed for the world’s most challenging projects. While the main focus is on membrane housing design and development for existing markets and applications, Codeline also relishes new opportunities to explore new ideas and innovation opportunities, both in vessel design and efficient project execution.
Our well-equipped and state of the art manufacturing facilities, highly trained and skilled experts, and unrivalled manufacturing processes make our R&D department increasingly attractive to new scientific talent. The extensive research and the construction of numerous installations across the world has created an impressive knowledge base and led to the adoption of Codeline technology in a growing range of industrial applications.
Innovations:
For over four decades, Codeline has led the membrane housing industry by continually raising the bar for performance through outstanding expertise and innovations. Some of the benchmark innovations were first brought to market by Codeline. We want to further elaborate on 3 of our innovations.
THE OCTA technology
In keeping with the tradition of setting industry benchmarks, Codeline pioneered the OCTA technology. The OCTA series is unique because it provides the ‘Best-Fit-Flat-Surface’ for multiporting inside a conventional circular membrane housing.
OCTA fast facts:
- Octagonal shape is formed inside a circular membrane housing
- The shape provides the ‘Best-Fit-Flat- Surface‘ for a multiport membrane housing
- ‘Unique Octagonal Groove Forming‘ technology is used for manufacturing
Vision On Ro
Water pollution and water scarcity pose a critical challenge to the world. Demand for clean water is steadily rising and creating a real urgency to convert available resources to usable water. The desalination industry that turns seawater into potable water is growing globally at a rate of 15 to 20 percent every year.
Codeline membrane housings have a history of successful operation in industrial and municipal water treatment. Many of the world’s most prestigious water treatment operations use our membrane housings. The housings provide high structural stability and high system performance efficiency, making them the preferred choice for Reverse Osmosis (RO) operations around the world.
Reverse osmosis is a membrane-based process technology to purify water by separating the dissolved solids from the feed stream, dividing it into permeate and reject streams. The purified water or permeate can be used in a wide range of domestic and industrial applications.
RO technology is used in nearly every application to purify water today, and is set to dominate the future.
RO systems offer many advantages:
- Removes inorganic and organic pollutants simultaneously
- Simple to design and operate, with low maintenance requirements and modular in nature, making expansion easy
- Allows recovering and recycling of waste process streams without affecting the material being recovered
- Requires less energy compared to other water purification technologies
- Greatly increases capacity flexibility in desalination plants because of the system’s modular structure
Codeline RO membrane housings are widely used in industrial water treatment units and in the production of usable water from almost any source. Our vessels have proven to be highly efficient for a wide range of challenging and demanding applications in the water industry.
With industry-rooted R&D and market-leading expertise, we are continuously improving our products. We introduced superior features like flat sealings, threaded side-ports, quick lock system, multiporting facilities, Octa technology (for 8-inch side-ported pressure vessels), the fail-safe shell and the single-piece head.
All of these features contribute to system efficiency and sustainable operations.
