NEOPHIL™ permanently hydrophilic membranes is the new generation of fluorated hollow fiber membranes.
The innovation consists in block copolymers anchored in a PVDF matrix.
Polymem, in partnership with Arkema has developed a new PVDF ultrafiltration membrane generation made from a new modified PVDF commercialized by Arkema under the Kynar® PVDF name. The modification is based on a proprietary block copolymer which provides solid and durable anchoring in the PVDF backbone as well as local hydrophilicity to inner and outer membrane porosity. Furthermore, its strong resistance to oxidation ensures the modification to be maintained during the entire lifetime of the membrane.
The Neophil™ material is thus offering
- the resistance to oxidants (chlorine, ozone…)
- a high permeability (400 – 500 l/h.m².b @ 20°C)
- excellent mechanical resistance (Traction >6 Mpa and Elongation at break >160 %)
- a mean pore size of 0.015 µm
- Permanent characteristics and efficiency:
virus removal > 4 log on new fiber
virus removal > à 4 log on aged fibers (exposed to 100 000 ppm.h chlorine).
Moreover, these excellent characteristics are permanent as the Neophil material is not losing any agent giving it its properties (unlike conventional PVDF membranes that lose, for example, their hydrophilizing agent during operation).
