Powell has been involved in the sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and chlorine (Cl2) industry for more than 50 years and has developed a complete line of products for the production, dilution, and handling of various chemicals such as chlorine, sodium hydroxide, sodium hypochlorite, sulfur dioxide, methanol, ammonia, phosgene, hydrogen peroxide, and more.
Powell Fabrication & Manufacturing, Inc. is a privately held company founded in 1964 by Clarence and Evelyn Powell. Today under the second-generation leadership of Duane Powell, the Powell Sodium Hypochlorite Processing System represents the company's core technology. It is supported with the design, development, and production of a host of proprietary and patented product lines including filtering, dilution and monitoring equipment, scrubber systems, platform loading and unloading equipment, and valve closure systems. Our product line is used with chlorine and other gases including but not limited to sodium hypochlorite, sodium hydroxide, sulfur dioxide, methanol, ammonia, phosgene, hydrochloric acid, and phosphoric acid.
The company is structured with Duane Powell as CEO and President and Norman L. Winterstein, Jr. as CFO/COO. A strong management team representing each of the company's critical functions determines the strategic direction and implements the activities to achieve the team's collective goals.

Our Engineering and Production staff members, many of whom have been with the company their entire professional careers, bring a level of experience and expertise difficult to match.
Powell technology is widely used in the United States and Canada with our continuous systems accounting for as much as 70% of the bleach produced in North America. On a broader scale, Powell is well-known and respected in the worldwide Chloralkali industry. Several major producers in Central and South America, Africa, Australia, the Middle East, and Europe rely on Powell technology to fulfill the world's increasing demand for bleach.
The Engineering Department at Powell houses the Project Management and CAD groups as well as traditional engineering functions including Control Systems Design and Programming & Product Development. Collectively, the department has more than 150 years of combined experience in the design of innovative bleach equipment to serve specific customer needs. Powell has developed state-of-the-art technology using quality equipment to ensure that each customer's technical requirements are met with greater efficiency and reduced downtime. Our engineers are recognized around the world as experts in the specialized functions our products fulfill and the unique environments in which they operate.
With four certified professional engineers on staff along with numerous other engineers with expertise in a variety of relevant disciplines and a wealth of specialized training, Powell has the hands-on experience to build custom designed products for unique customer needs. At Powell, each project is assigned to an engineer who functions as a project manager to personally oversee the project from design conception to completion. The project manager originates the prints the equipment will be built from, creates the bill of material, coordinates parts ordering, and is involved throughout the production process to ensure that all equipment is built to designed specifications while maintaining the highest standards of quality that define Powell's reputation.
Computer Automated Design
At Powell, the CAD Group supports the Engineering Department with detailed prints, 3D animations and modeling, and a variety of engineering drawings.
Control Systems Design and Programming
Powell has a variety of control system options available and can supply a complete bleach plant control system that has been designed, assembled, programmed and tested for a variety of site-specific applications. Powell control systems are fabricated and programmed on-site, using current control and communication technology.
Secure remote access allows for on-line programming enhancements and enables Powell personnel to provide technical assistance.
A comprehensive understanding of design, production, marketing, and sales, along with a solid technical background and extraordinary communication skills, are the key components of a successful product development effort. The strategic objectives of the company call for major R & D focus on the innovative valve closure line as well as continued emphasis on technological advancements for our core sodium hypochlorite technology. Our R & D efforts are dictated by the continuing changes in the industry and are directed by our engineering personnel.
Marketing & Sales
The Marketing & Sales Department is positioned to provide custom designed solutions to customer needs because of their knowledge of customer processes and goals. The specialized nature of our products allows the sales force to focus on each customer individually to provide high quality solutions to meet each customer’s specific needs.
International Business Development
Powell has a major commitment to continued market development outside North America, as evidenced by the development and support of international business policies and procedures designed to allow continued growth throughout the world.
The Operations Group manages the supply chain and manufacturing functions of the company and has a broad range of experience in all facets of the process. Their expertise is more than up to the challenges presented by the world of tight deadlines, just-in-time delivery, efficient resource allocation, inventory management, and the host of other issues presented on a daily basis.
The Materials function includes purchasing, configuration support, inventory management, and shipping & receiving. This department utilizes the company Enterprise Resource Planning system to proactively manage inventory levels and maintain a just-in-time inventory environment. The state-of-the-art ERP system is used by all employees to obtain critical customer information and to research parts and equipment for projects.
The ERP system allows Powell to streamline processes and maintain cost effective operations.
The Production Group has decades of experience constructing quality Powell equipment. Employees continually receive safety training as part of an on-going comprehensive in-house program. In addition to the basics, each employee also receives specialized training based on their skill set for the equipment they construct.
The Production Group includes certified welders, qualified pipe fitters, expertise in control panel logic and electrical wiring, and skilled machinists. All production employees have participated in the start up of Powell equipment and worked directly with the Field Engineering and Service department to gain a broad base of knowledge. This hands-on experience allows the Production staff the ability to partner with the engineers during construction to provide the best equipment design for the customer's needs.
Our Field Engineering and Service department is available to provide immediate customer support for troubleshooting and consultation regarding customer issues and concerns. Powell service technicians have extensive knowledge about our customers and equipment and are uniquely positioned to provide the best service and support in the industry. Technical Service provides 24/7 support for customers and manages in-house instrumentation maintenance and repair.
