Purac Founded in 1956 in Lund as a direct result of the invention of the flotation on the Östanå paper mill. Purac was originally part of Tetra Pak and made initial water treatment facilities for the company's paperboard production.

In 1993 Purac was bought by British Anglian Water Group, then after 10 years of ownership sold Purac on to the Swedish private equity company Accent Equity Partners, which was the principal owner of Purac.

KFI Capital was, through the holding company Läckeby Water Group, Purac's main shareholder 2008-2015. During KFI Kapital's ownership Purac further developed and is now one of the leading construction companies in the water and wastewater treatment and biogas production in Scandinavia and China.

Since December 2015, SDIC & Beijing Drainage Investment Fund, owner of Purac. SDIC & Beijing Drainage Investment Fund is a fund owned by Beijing Drainage Group, BDG. BDG is a state-owned Chinese company which owns and operates the majority of all sewage treatment plants in central Beijing.
