PV Crystalox Solar is a highly specialised supplier to the world’s leading solar cell manufacturers, producing multicrystalline silicon wafers for use in solar electricity generation systems.

Our customers, the world’s leading solar cell producers, combine these wafers into solar modules to harness the clean, silent and renewable power from the sun. We are playing a central role in making solar power cost competitive with conventional hydrocarbon power generation and, as such, continue to seek to drive down the cost of production whilst increasing solar cell efficiency.

PV Crystalox Solar started as an ingot furnace manufacturer. As part of its R&D and through the testing of products, it produced multicrystalline ingots.

PV Crystalox Solar was established in 1982. We were one of the first to develop multicrystalline silicon technology on an industrial scale, setting the industry standard for ingot production. As part of our R&D and through the testing of products, we produced multicrystalline ingots. Through the encouragement of our world-leading customers, the Company moved into producing ingots full time, ceasing to sell our propriety technology to what are now our competitors. We are a leader in the industry and were the first to develop multicrystalline technology on an industrial scale, producing the first 66cm ingots, which have since become the industry standard.

In 1985, Crystalox was taken over by Elkem ASA.

With 25 years in solar technology development, PV Crystalox Solar is a leading manufacturer of multicrystalline silicon ingots and wafers, the key component in solar power systems.

Its customers, the world's leading solar cell producers, combine these wafers into solar modules to harness the clean, silent and renewable power from the sun.

PV Crystalox Solar is playing a central role in making solar cost competitive with conventional hydrocarbon power generation and, as such, continues to seek to drive down the cost of production whilst increasing solar cell efficiency. The gap between the cost of solar power production and utility energy is decreasing year on year.

With a long history of production with high growth and profitability, PV Crystalox Solar is well placed to benefit greatly from the rapid growth in the solar energy market.

  • PV Crystalox is the first company to develop multicrystalline technology on an industrial scale, producing the first 66cm ingots in 1996, which has now become the industry standard.
  • Production of our ingots takes place in the Oxfordshire (United Kingdom) plant and the production of our wafers takes place in the Erfurt (Germany) plant.

PV Crystalox Solar is committed to systematically enhancing its leadership by focusing on developing strong relationships with solar cell producers. It is our intention to remain one of the PV industry leaders and to supply the highest quality wafers.
