Who We Are:
Scranton Gillette Communications is a fourth-generation family-owned business-to-business communications company, named by Folio magazine as one of the 40 fastest-growing companies — and an “All Star” in the magazine industry.
SGC remains one of only a handful of family-owned middle-market communications companies within the borders of the United States and has continued to grow its product base by 75% with new launches in 2008 and multiple acquisitions in 2009 — including the SGC Horizon Division’s publications dedicated to residential building and remodeling, commercial building and construction equipment.
With our depth of services and marketing expertise, supported by healthy investments in digital products, custom media opportunities and company-owned face-to-face events, SGC and our more than 100 employees continue to deliver award-winning products to our spectrum of audiences in addition to full-service marketing capabilities to our clients.
History
Established in 1905, Scranton Gillette Communications began as a Chicago-based publishing company serving the transportation construction industry. In the past decade, the ARTBA Transportation Development Foundation (ARTBA-TDF) named SGC founder Halbert Powers Gillette as one of the foundation’s “Top 100 Private Sector Transportation Construction Professionals of the 20th Century.” To this day, Roads & Bridges magazine and its online products and supplements, including Transportation Management & Engineering, continue to deliver breaking news, product updates and in-depth reporting in print and online to the industry audience it has served so well for more than a century.
Since that initial venture into publishing, SGC has added B2B print, event and Web products that serve as a communications link to a host of industries, in addition to transportation, water purification, storm water and erosion control, water and wastewater, horticulture growers and retailers, residential lighting and home furnishings design, healthcare imaging technology and cardiology diagnostics, construction equipment, residential construction, commercial construction, and pipe organ and church music.
Today, Scranton Gillette Communications is helmed by President/CEO Edward Gillette, great-grandson of the founder, whose company growth philosophy is soundly based on “what makes sense” and maintaining the agility to react quickly to changing market conditions.
