Founded in 1946 by Nikolaos Petsios, Spider N. Petsios & Sons S.A. began as a small workshop providing replacement car parts in Ioaninna, Greece.

In 1968 a programme of diversification saw Spider consolidate it’s production to become a major manufacturer of pre-fabricated shelving for supermarkets and retail outlets.

During 1974 Spider entered into an agreement with the Ministry of National Defence, constructing military body parts and defence material for the Greek Army.

1983 saw Spider enter the Recycling & Waste Management Industry building a range of automated recycling & waste systems.

In 1998 Spider introduced it’s products to the UK market and formed Spider UK Ltd who’s primary focus was the western European Recycling and Waste Management sector and by 1999 Spider’s impressive growth record led it to become the first company in the North-West of Greece to go public on the Athens stock exchange.

At the start of the current millennium Spider launched a range of specialist Refuse Collection Vehicles, further expanding its waste technology portfolio. In the same year Spider developed a mobile shelving system for the stocking, archiving and filing of documents and stocks throughout private and public institutions, greatly improving on the efficient use of space.

Spider further diversified in 2003 with the formation of Spider Energy S.A. where it entered into the field of renewable energy in the form of planning and licensing permissions of wind farm installations across Greece.

2007 was the first year in it’s history that Spider offered out it services as a Waste Management contractor with the formation of Spider Environmental Services S.A. With the full range of equipment required to facilitate the contracts being manufactured in-house, Spider quickly won large contracts across eastern Europe for the collection and management of both Waste and Recyclables.

At the end of 2008 Spider UK expanded on the service portfolio and built a plant for the repair and refurbishment of waste containers, from all manufacturers. This part of the business grew rapidly and in 2010 Spider UK was awarded a 4-year contract to refurbish bins from all local authorities in the UK.
