The Sustainability Consortium (TSC) is an organization of diverse global participants that work collaboratively to build a scientific foundation that drives innovation to improve consumer product sustainability. We develop transparent methodologies, tools, and strategies to drive a new generation of products and supply networks that address environmental, social, and economic imperatives. TSC advocates for a credible, scalable, and transparent process and system. The organization boasts 100+ members from all corners of business employing over 57 million people and whose combined revenues total over $1.5 trillion.
Our vision is to advance science to drive a new generation of innovative products and supply networks that address environmental, social, and economic imperatives.
Through multi-stakeholder collaboration, our mission is to design and implement credible, transparent and scalable science-based measurement and reporting systems accessible for all producers, retailers, and users of consumer products.
Increasingly pressure is being felt by multiple stakeholders to reduce the environmental and social impacts associated with global consumption. Retailers, manufacturers, suppliers, governments, NGOs, researchers and consumers all hold a stake in the sustainability of global product production and use.
As global citizens, we face extraordinary challenges: complexity of global trade and supply networks, world population growth expected to reach 9 billion by 2050, diminishing resources, worker safety and fair treatment, human health and safety.
At the core of multiple stakeholders’ interests and at the center of such challenges we find the need to more accurately quantify and communicate the sustainability of products. The challenge before us, then, is to work collaboratively together, developing an approach that drives better understanding, standardization, and informed decision making.
The Consortium creates scale as it represents 100+ of the world's largest organizations, working together to create pre-competitive, cross-sector solutions. Sector and Consortium Working Groups are charted groups of TSC members and invited participants, led by a TSC director and staff, who work together to create sustainability-related knowledge about particular product categories, continuously adding to the scope of products covered by TSC's Sustainability Measurement and Reporting System (SMRS).
