The Solar Energy Society, the UK national section of ISES, is a non-profit learned society which aims to further the use of all forms of renewable energy by encouraging research, promoting education and providing training. The Society provides a forum for all those interested in renewable energy technologies and its membership is drawn from industry, government, academic institutions, architectural and engineering practices and the general public. Through its meetings and publications, the Society aims to promote discussion and disseminate information on all aspects of renewable energy, including not only technical issues, but also political, institutional and economic barriers and opportunities for the development of solar energy industries, to serve the needs of developing as well as industrialised countries.

The Society is administered by the UK-ISES Secretariat and is based in Abingdon-on-Thames, Oxfordshire.
Members of the society are drawn from industry, government, academic institutions, architectural and engineering practices, as well as the general public. Academic qualifications are not a pre-requisite for membership.
