The Solar Energy Society, the UK national section of ISES, is a non-profit learned society which aims to further the use of all forms of renewable energy by encouraging research, promoting education and providing training. The Society provides a forum for all those interested in renewable energy technologies and its membership is drawn from industry, government, academic institutions, architectural and engineering practices and the general public. Through its meetings and publications, the Society aims to promote discussion and disseminate information on all aspects of renewable energy, including not only technical issues, but also political, institutional and economic barriers and opportunities for the development of solar energy industries, to serve the needs of developing as well as industrialised countries.

The Society was formed in 1976. Since that time it has organised more than 100 conferences and published associated proceedings covering all major areas of renewable energy, including the ISES Solar World Forum in 1981, the UK-ISES Silver Jubilee conference in Brighton in 1999, EuroSun 2006 and the Photovoltaic Science, Applications and Technology series (PVSAT). The David Hall Memorial Lecture is held annually and past speakers include Government ministers and leading figures in the field.

    The Society is administered by the UK-ISES Secretariat and is based in Abingdon-on-Thames, Oxfordshire.

The Solar Energy Society is the UK National Section of the International Solar Energy Society (ISES). The underlying goal behind the work of ISES is to advance the transition to a renewable energy world. ISES is committed to 100% renewable energy for all used efficiently and wisely. ISES provides key timely information on renewable energy technology and innovation breakthroughs, policy mechanisms and changes, investment strategies and deployment opportunities.
The Solar Energy Society is a non-profit organisation. It is a forum for all those interested in the advancement of the utilisation of the sun's energy.

Members of the society are drawn from industry, government, academic institutions, architectural and engineering practices, as well as the general public. Academic qualifications are not a pre-requisite for membership.  

During the past 40 years solar energy research and application has come a long way. We are proud to have played an important part in this. UK-ISES National memberships do not include International Membership of ISES. International membership must be taken out separately by the individual or corporates online by visiting
