How We Work
Permanent Hires

Our guiding philosophy is to understand and respond to what clients need, tailoring our approach to every assignment; responsive recruitment. Our clients are able to select or create their preferred turnkey service level to suit your specific requirements:

This is a fast and effective service option that allows clients to take advantage of active candidates in the market. Clients are able to utilise one of the biggest advertising budgets in the industry, as well as an extensive internal data warehouse and the advice of our internal researchers. This approach is ideal for more medium term deadlines and common vacancies.

Exclusive Contingency

This search is suited for more urgent, senior or niche roles where a thorough evaluation of available talent is required. In addition to the service mentioned above, a market wizard search will also utilise a combination of relevant CV database technology, the Viridium Associates Candidate Hub network, and the internal Talent Source search facility.

Retained Search

When clients require complete discretion and total candidate coverage, we provide a full retained search service. Each service is completely unique and designed to deliver the best possible recruitment solution. Full internal resources will be effectively deployed to provide a bespoke service for each vacancy.

Contract, Interim and Temporary Hires:

We have the largest advertising budget per head in the environmental recruitment sector.
We carefully screen all candidates before submission, ensuring they are right for you.
We take pride in collecting at least 2 references
We meet candidates (when geographically possible) to match them for you.
We submit the best contractors on the market within 48 hours of receiving a role within our contracts team.
We are proud to have a 1:1 ratio of offer to placement within our contracts team.
The average recruitment lifecycle on contracts at Viridium Associates takes only 4 days from receiving the role.

Contract Pricing Plans:

Within Budget:

This is the most popular option that our clients use.

Our clients give us a daily budget all-inclusive (candidate’s daily rate plus the agency fee) and it is our mission as dedicated consultants to find an excellent candidate within the budget.

Case study:

A leading Wind Energy Company required an offshore Project Manager for a 18months contract. The company had a specific all-inclusive (candidate rate and agency fee) daily budget.

We successfully placed an excellent offshore Project Manager within the allocated daily budget and even managed to save our client 15% from the initial daily budget proposed.

This pricing is designed to keep costs to a minimal without compromising on quality and time.

Working Toward a Set Margin:

For Contract, Interim, Temporary and Consultancy hires we can work towards a fixed margin.

This means that we work to a negotiated mark-up percentage with our client based on the offer given to our candidate.

Case Study:

We successfully recruited for one of the largest Solar PV organizations in the world for a Solar PV Business Development Manager for a 24 month contract.

Once our client offered our candidate we agreed a mark-up margin, for the agency fee.

This is a traditional price plan commonly used within the market, which provides a fixed agency rate (measured as a percentage).

Viridium is structured deliberately to enable us to provide every client with an expert in the field they are recruiting for. Our teams are built on a deep understanding of how and where to source the skills our clients need, as well as excellence in search and candidate management methodology.

Every assignment or vacancy we undertake will be led by a Senior Consultant with in-depth knowledge of the specific market. Supported by a team of consultants and search executives, they will plan and execute a comprehensive campaign to present the best talent available across the following core markets:

Renewables & Cleantech

Our consultants are particularly focused in solar (PV and thermal) and wind (onshore and offshore). Aside from this we also cover selected mandates in biomass, biogas and hydropower.
Within these renewable energy markets, we frequently place high volume sales and business development candidates, who usually join as experienced hires having already proven themselves in their respective markets. We listen very carefully to the type of commercial experience needed within each mandate in order to be as selective as possible when it comes to our extensive screening process. Our candidates tend to be leaders in their field, often with 15+ years’ experience.

We specialise in renewable energy recruitment which is an area with unprecedented growth and high demand in both technical and commercial roles. As a team who have covered this area for a number of years, we are unique in having years of experience in renewable energy giving us a level credibility which sets us apart, coupled with an energetic, imaginative and fresh approach to problem solving.

We have deep understanding of our specialist areas: solar PV, solar thermal, wind (onshore and offshore) and bioenergy. This allows us to recruit globally and locally for the best candidate for each role. We find candidates across the board, working with candidates who are consummate professionals within financing – raising equity investments and debt financing for commercial, residential and utility scale renewable energy projects. We deliver on key mandates across project sourcing, development, operations and maintenance. In the complex and often revolutionary field of renewable energy manufacturing and R&D, as well as the semiconductor field, we execute candidate searches with a high level of accuracy, diplomacy and knowledge. In particular, we have an unmatched level of search expertise in solar photovoltaics (crystalline silicon and thin film) dealing with specialists on cells, modules, wafers, ingots and other components, and wind turbines and components.

Our renewable energy and cleantech clients range from global project developers through to start-ups; from engineering firms with under 100 employees to EPCs with global staffing running into the tens of thousands; from top tier investment banks through to boutique financial advisory firms; global manufacturing companies with numerous production lines and start-ups currently in the first phase of financing concentrating on R&D.

Environment, Sustainability and Energy Consulting and Engineering

Having developed relationships with leaders in the environment and energy field, we are able to quickly identify recruitment solutions for appointments up to C-level and this, combined with our deep industry knowledge provides a more customised service for our clients. The bespoke solutions derived from our executive searches please not only our clients, but also our candidates, hence the uncommonly wide network of “live” contacts we have developed.

Our experience spans several sectors within infrastructure and the environment. Not only do we place candidates in established industries such as building services, land remediation, geotechnical consulting, environmental impact assessment and waste management, we are also leaders in areas of development, including sustainability, CSR (corporate social responsibility), energy efficiency and the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) and forestry carbon. We take a personal and passionate interest in these areas, and approach the mandates we work on with a high level of responsibility. We strongly believe in choosing the mandates we work on based on their ethical impact; this is appreciated by both our candidates and clients alike.

Our typical clients approach us either as repeat business or because they we have been recommended to them, usually by word of mouth directly from candidates or clients who have been impressed with our knowledge and transparency, but even more so the results we have delivered for them. We place with engineering consultancies and EPCs, management consultancies, government bodies and renewable energy project development firms.

Carbon Trading and Emission Reduction Projects

Our clients view working with us as a secure investment, because of the depth of knowledge and superior candidate management we are able to bring them on every mandate they show us. We have over 10 years’ financial markets recruitment experience, and have been recruiting for the carbon markets since 2006. Having a much more sophisticated understanding of the industry than other non-finance recruitment specialists gives us a competitive edge that is unparalleled, and coupled with our environmental knowledge, marks us as unique.

We administer retained search methodologies to source our candidates and this provides our clients with a bespoke service for each mandate. We have key contacts in all of the major markets: EU ETS (European Union Emissions Trading Scheme) and other emissions trading schemes globally, both voluntary and mandatory; VCS (Voluntary Carbon Standards), CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) and JI (Joint Implementation) and REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation). These networks allow us access to knowledge from both a candidate sourcing and market information perspective.

Our long list of clients include carbon trading boutiques, large brokerage houses, large financial institutions including investment banks, asset managers, trading houses, private equity and hedge funds, large and small management, audit and strategy consulting firms, DOEs (Designated Operational Entities), utilities and IPPs (Independent Power Providers); research and publishing firms; municipal bodies, carbon buyers and project developers. The reputation that we have developed over a number of years has been earned by delivering a fast, effective and tailored service that has been the envy of our competitors.
