This involves digging a trench 1 or 2 metres deep, then burying pipes. A wide trench needs to be dug, and coiled plastic pipe, coiled into 'slinkies' is buried. On average 10 metres of trench is needed for each kilowatt of power. This is likely to mean digging at least 100 metres of trenchwork - a considerable earthworks exercise.
WB+AD Morgan’s vertical ground source heating system involves drilling one or more boreholes. The vertical system eliminates the need to dig extensive trenches and reduces the level of disturbance, delivering overall consistency and efficiency. Utilising a borehole is the most efficient way of extracting heat from the ground. The boiler-sized heat pump is carefully installed by our own NICEIC electrician.
