Molecular Marker Compounds 2017

0

This course describes the geochemistry and application of molecular marker compounds ("biomarkers") in sediments and crude oils. The structures and origins of the important classes of biomarkers (including non-hydrocarbons) in petroleum geochemistry are considered, providing an understanding of how molecular markers can be used as indicators of maturity and of organic matter origin. The course develops an appreciation of the strengths and weaknesses of the biomarker approach, and an understanding of their routine applications in petroleum exploration. Note that the course is delivered over two weeks, with hours of attendance: Monday: 14:00-17:00 Tuesday and Thursday: 10:00-17:00 Friday: 09:00-17:00
