Evaluating RO Fouling Indicators: Fouling Monitor vs. Silt Density Index
This article introduces a more reliable, applicable and relevant early-warning fouling indicator known as the Fouling Monitor (FM). The FM has been proven to be an early-warning diagnostic index that quantitatively measures the magnitude of any membrane fouling or scaling that has started to develop in the system based on actual plant’s design and operating conditions in real-time, not as a long-term trend. Data required for measuring the FM include membrane systems’ design configurations and historical train operating data (same data required by ASTM 4516 standard data normalization method currently used by all membrane manufacturers for membrane system performance evaluation).
