Fire Weather Monitoring

by FTS     based in Victoria, BRITISH COLUMBIA (CANADA)

FTS is the world leader in environmental monitoring solutions for fire weather. FTS stations are in use by every one of the top 50 government forest management agencies in every corner of the United States and Canada. No one else dedicates as much of its research and development efforts to the needs of fire weather professionals. FTS portable and fixed-site weather stations set the standard for reliability and simplicity of operation, maintenance, and installation. As a manufacturer, we design and engineer the leading datalogger that is approved and fully supported by the NIFC Remote Sensing Fire Weather Support Unit (RSFWSU). Our G5 GOES / Meteosat transmitter is recognized as the most reliable GOES technology available, and is licensed for use by other environmental monitoring equipment manufacturers.

Continuous Instream Monitoring

by FTS     based in Victoria, BRITISH COLUMBIA (CANADA)

Turbidity in natural waters is recognized as an important indicator of its environmental health, and because it's a good surrogate for suspended sediment, monitoring turbidity has always been the "holy grail" for hydrologists. But because of earlier technology, "turbidity" has traditionally been a "bad word". The DTS-12 turbidity sensor is the first sensor to make turbidity monitoring practical, and no longer difficult, inaccurate, expensive, or labor-intensive. Turbidity is the cloudiness or murkiness of water caused by suspended organic or inorganic materials. Turbidity in natural waters is recognized as an important indicator of its environmental health.

Water Data Management Solution for Alpine Monitoring

by KISTERS group     based in Aachen, GERMANY

KISTERS has developed a specific version of WISKI with unique benefits for those monitoring Alpine Regions. Some of its advanced features include specialized calculations for measuring precipitation, snow, sediment transport and water balances in catchments.

Meteorological Monitoring

by FTS     based in Victoria, BRITISH COLUMBIA (CANADA)

FTS designs complete, turn-key systems for a variety of environmental monitoring applications. Our systems are based upon the Axiom datalogger—a key technology that deliver rugged reliability in any environment, simplicity of operation, low maintenance costs, and extremely accurate data.

Industrial solutions for remote monitoring

by Advantic Sistemas y Servicios S.L     based in Alcobendas, SPAIN

Supervision and maintenance on those locations without internet wired connection requires high personnel cost and also means a slow reaction in case of malfunction events and alarms. For companies with a big amount of remote location centers (such as repeaters of operators and telephone companies, production and distribution centers for energy manufacturers or photovoltaic/eolic plants), maintenance and supervision labors involve disproportionately high costs.

Remote monitoring stations

The Water Survey of Canada, a division of Environment Canada, is a federal government agency responsible for collection, interpretation and dissemination of water source data and information. As a division of Environment Canada, the Water Survey of Canada (WSC) covers a vast range of topographical environs from Arctic Canada to the US border with elevations varying from sea level to over 13,000 feet (4,000 metres). An estimated 7% of the world’s renewable water supplies are found in Canada. Canada’s hydrology is incredibly diverse thanks to a wide range of bio-physical ecozones. WSC operates in partnership with all of the Canadian provinces, territories and other agencies, operating over 2,500 active hydrometric gauges across the country. The hydrologic and socioeconomic diversity found in Canada makes water resource management incredibly challenging.

Industrial solutions for energy efficiency in buildings

by Advantic Sistemas y Servicios S.L     based in Alcobendas, SPAIN

Nowadays, the new laws of protection and sustainability, increased energy prices and greater environmental awareness and drive increased largely rational use of energy, not only for end users but also large consumers and systems thereby improving efficiency in buildings.

Wildfire Management

by FTS     based in Victoria, BRITISH COLUMBIA (CANADA)

When wildfires do occur, knowing accurate weather conditions at the location of the fire not only provides a powerful tool to help control the fire, it also helps save lives. Since data from a fixed RAWS station network may not provide the granularity needed, fire management agencies will position several FTS Quick Deploy portable RAWS around the perimeter of the fire. Because they can be set up or dismantled by one person in under 15 minutes, they can be re-positioned as needed. During a wildfire, firefighting crews do not carry laptops (nor do they have time to connect one or the training to operate complex software). FTS customers appreciate the ability to change any configurations as needed for the specific situation with the simple graphical interface on the integrated touchscreen of the Axiom datalogger. Portable RAWS positioned around the fire's perimeter save firefighters' lives.

Agricultural, Storm and Highway Runoff

by FTS     based in Victoria, BRITISH COLUMBIA (CANADA)

The ability to collect useful data about sediment transport and other pollutants closely coupled to SSC (such as nutrients, e-coli, phosphates and nitrates) is dependent on the timing and frequency of manual grab samples during run-off events. Most sediment and pollutant is transported during a small number of storm events which are infrequent and unpredictable. When they do occur, trained personnel or the proper equipment may not be available to collect grab samples. An automated pump sampler can eliminate the need to sample manually, but for the expense of a rechargeable power system, the autosampler, and possibly a datalogger and a typical turbidity probe, you’re no better off. With an automated pump sampler driven by the DTS-12 digital turbidity sensor and controlled by the Axiom H2 datalogger, you obtain a better understanding of the water’s quality, while taking a minimum number of samples, reducing site visits and saving lab analysis costs.

Fire Danger Rating / Forecasting

by FTS     based in Victoria, BRITISH COLUMBIA (CANADA)

For various reasons, including the changing global climate, wildfires are getting bigger, more destructive and more expensive. Effective, consistent and reliable detection of climate parameters is the key to preventing wildfires and managing the impact they have. Our equipment resides for decades in solitary confinement generally in very remote areas (often at the tops of mountains or deep within a national forest), constantly measuring and recording weather data. Once per hour, this data is transmitted back to government agencies who will analyze and use it to make decisions critical to the safety of the public. In the United States, FTS works closely with the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC). The center’s mission is the complex interagency coordination of wildland firefighting resources for the country. One of the resources is the network of remote automated weather stations (RAWS), the vast majority of which are supplied by FTS.
