Air pollution control for ventilation air methane industry

Ventilation Air Methane (VAM) is a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) released by coal or mineral mining operations, it is also commonly known as Coal Mine Methane (CMM).  The air pollutants from this process have a global warming potential 21 times greater than carbon dioxide, which is another well known GHG.  As alternative energy technologies have developed, methane is increasingly used to generate electricity and heat.  Landfills and mines represent two of the most abundant sources, however reports indicate that more than 50% of all VAM is exhausted from mine ventilation systems and remains unutilized.

Monitoring oil in power plant cooling water

    The Situation:

A municipal power plant in the southern United States operates more than 10 stationary power plant engines capable of producing 52 megawatts of electric power. The plant is part of a larger statewide power grid system. Within the grid, the municipality brokers the purchase or sale of power hourly, based on the needs of municipality and the market rate for power on the grid system.

Laboratory instruments solutions for surface finishing industry

The coating and finishing of surfaces using electroplating techniques is a highly sophisticated process. Be it the finishing of metal parts or the coating of printed circuit boards, the quality required in the intermediate and end products is only achieved if the composition of the process baths is right. At the same time, rising costs of raw materials and energy make it absolutely essential to drive production as efficiently as possible. As a leading manufacturer of instruments for chemical analysis we know about the challenges of coating and finishing of surfaces using electroplating techniques. We offer you state-of-the-art instrumentation to control and optimize the quality of your coating processes − both in the laboratory and in the process environment.

Monitoring of heat exchanger leaks in paper plant

    The Situation

A paper plant in the Eastern United States uses 500 gallons per minute filtered pond water for cooling lubricating oil in its paper line. The resulting warmed water is diverted to an onsite pond. Because the water is used to cool lubricating oil, the plant could not reuse the water in its pulping process for fears of possible oil contamination of the paper pulp.

    NH3 Monitoring in Air

NH3 (Ammonia) is a colorless gas with a distinctive pungent smell. Ammonia monitoring is essential in coal-fired power plants, where NH3 is used to reduce NOx emissions. The ammonia consumes all of the NOx, but its high concentration that is needed for these purposes also starts reacting with other things and in the process can clog up filters and cause premature failure of expensive SCR equipment and pre-heaters. Not to mention that these high levels create an irreparable damage to the environment.

Meteorological Sensors for Solar Monitoring Industry

The most important measurement parameter is irradiation. Since PV systems are becoming ever larger, the accuracy of the irradiation measurement is increasingly important for the efficiency of the system. Wind cools the temperature of the module and must therefore be included in the efficiency calculation. Precipitation leads to contamination or covering (snow). With increasing temperature, the performance of the solar module decreases. Therefore, it is important to measure the temperature of the solar module in addition to the air temperature.

    Machine condition monitoring for biofuels

    Overview

The use of ethanol as a gasoline additive has increased dramatically over the past few years and will likely continue to increase. For fuel blenders, this means an added challenge to avoid an incorrect blend that could lead to regulatory fines, loss of customer confidence and damage to equipment. A quick on-site analysis with a portable mid-infrared based analyzer, such as the InfraCal 2 Ethanol Blend Analyzer shown in the photo, can help fuel blenders quickly flag out-of-spec product and ensure the final blend meets specifications.
